Server Optimization

Linux server, web server, PHP and database tuning for lower TTFB and stable performance under real traffic.

Overview

Front-end optimization can only do so much when the server takes a second to respond. Time to First Byte (TTFB) depends on the web server, PHP configuration, opcode caching, database queries and caching layers working together.

I configure and tune Linux servers running Nginx or LiteSpeed, PHP-FPM with OPcache, and MySQL/MariaDB — and add page and object caching where appropriate — so your site responds quickly and stays stable during traffic spikes such as festivals, launches or viral posts.

Problems this solves

  • High TTFB even on simple pages.
  • Server crashes or 502/503 errors when traffic surges.
  • Slow database queries and tables that have grown out of control.
  • Default PHP and web server settings that were never tuned.
  • No clear visibility into what the server is doing.

Features & deliverables

  • Server audit: resources, configuration, logs and bottlenecks
  • Nginx or LiteSpeed configuration, HTTP/2 or HTTP/3, compression
  • PHP-FPM pool sizing and OPcache tuning
  • MySQL/MariaDB tuning, slow-query analysis and indexing
  • Page caching and Redis/Memcached object caching where suitable
  • Security basics: firewall, SSH hardening, updates, SSL
  • Configuration notes so changes are documented

Process

How we'll work together.

  1. 01

    Assess

Review server specs, configuration files, logs and traffic patterns.

  2. 02

    Benchmark

Measure TTFB and load behaviour before any changes.

  3. 03

    Tune

Apply configuration and caching changes in controlled steps.

  4. 04

    Verify & Document

Re-benchmark, monitor stability and record every change.

FAQs

Common questions.

Do you work with shared hosting?

Shared hosting allows limited server-level changes, but application-level and caching optimizations still help. For high-traffic sites, a VPS usually gives far more control.

Nginx or LiteSpeed — which is better?

Both are excellent. LiteSpeed integrates tightly with LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress; Nginx is flexible and widely supported. The best choice depends on your hosting, stack and team.

Will optimization cause downtime?

Changes are planned and applied carefully, typically with configuration testing and reloads rather than restarts, and scheduled for low-traffic periods when needed.

Can you prepare a server for a traffic spike?

Yes. Event and festival sites often see huge, short-lived peaks; caching, CDN rules and resource limits can be prepared in advance.
